This blog had suffered due to good work I’ve been doing for Movember, the men’s moustache growing charity. Last night marked the official end of Movember in Ireland with the Gala Parté in Tripod. Our team dressed fabulously in Disney dress that had Walt probably turning his cryogenic grave. I dressed as Pedro Pan and following dancing naked at the IADT ‘Miracle on Store Street’ Xmas do with all but a green pair of tights on. Meneo, the man responsible for all the magical nakedness that ensued played a stormer with his GameBoy and if you ever get the opportunity to see them make sure you do. GOLD.

Sadly it is true. The King of Pop reigns no more. I am completely shocked to how fast the word spread, my phone blew up and I went straight onto facebook and twitter where everyone was just as stunned. Without a doubt the greatest pop star of all times. The video above just shows exactly why the world loved the man.

cold-war-kids

If you enjoyed playing with the  robot voices of Daft Punk on idaft then you might enjoy the interactive video for the Cold War Kids single ‘I’ve Seen Enough’. Turn the band members on or off and change the instrument they’re playing by using the coloured bars at the top.I really dig the idea and totally appreciate the work and thought that went into making this after dabbling in interactive DVD’s myself in college. Pat yourselves on the back CWK’s! Check it here!

djherocontroller

Admittedly the closest I came to playing Guitar Hero was in a mates gaf, I was all set to unleash my raw and untapped talent by delivering power chords galore with a plastic Gibson Les Paul with green, red and blue buttons in place of strings. He couldn’t get it to work. Despite this, I saw the point. Air guitar, as everyone knows, is one of the most fun ways to release that pent-up rock n’ roll energy without possessing a shred of any musical talent. Guitar Hero lets you pick up a guitar and gives you the feeling of being able to play to the song. DJ Hero is set for release soon and I just can’t imagine how this could be much fun. DJing on real decks, CD or Vinyl or Virtual, is already like a game with loads of mad buttons and effects to play with. Surely Djing a gaf party with your mates is more craic than doing the ‘wicky-wicky’ on front of a telly.

Just looked at the The Small Print’s photos of last Sundays nights magnificant Social @ Twisted Pepper. Although slightly miffed they charged me and my medium sized entourage a tenner in because we strolled in 4 minutes too late at 11.03pm, I was easily distracted upon entry by the magic neon doodles created by artists Chris Judge, Steve Simpson, Scalder, Gaetan Billault, BRENB and Des McElroy. I spent most of the night upstairs in the Mezz where the Dublin Streets massive threw an awesome 3D Under The Sea soirée (check this facebook vid) that spilled out onto O’ Connell Street during the small hours with beach volleyball antics outside Maccers. Missed out? Good news is there’s another Social (yay!) next May Bank Holiday (double yay!) which is sure to be just as exuberant and rowdy.

storyland

This is the last week to vote on RTE’s Storyland. For those who don’t know Storyland is a competition for new programme makers. 5 months ago entries where sent into Donnybrook and they picked 9 finalists who then went off and made some screen magic, or maybe not, and each of the programmes are now online for us to watch and vote for which one you want to see another episode of. Voting closes on the 30th of March.

ladyhawke

New Zealand electropop sensation Ladyhawke is in Dublin this Thursday playing the Academy so I’ll be nabbing myself a ticket. The damage is only about 16 pieces of silver and I’m sure she won’t disappoint. I read an interview with her and if there’s proof that you can overcome the things that this bollox called life hurls at you, then she’s it. Loads of allergies, diagnosed with a mild form of autism and contracting a rare disease from getting seagull shite on her face? Puh-leeez! Tix available from ticketmaster.

This chappy decides to spin around the block after taking a hit of salvia. For those who don’t know, salvia is derived from an American plant. This herbal bastard cousin is related to the clean living mint family and is legal to buy in Ireland. Regular weed smokers within my inner circle weren’t big fans as they thought the high to be quite intense as you can see from this vid!
