Anti-Monopoly. No more Landlords charging extortionate amounts for your gaf. Fairness is the name of the game. Available here.
This Wednesday I shall be heading to Andrews Lane Theatre for the 18th IMRO Showcase Tour where the cream of our Isle’s talent Dirty Epics, The Red Labels, The Dirty 9’s and my own bad self’s personal preference Land Lovers are going to be doing their thang from 8 bells. There had been 900 applications from new bands wanting to be part of the nationwide showcase gigs but only 40 or so are on the bill so here’s hopin’ for some break-through brilliance!
Behold the video for NPSH’s new track ‘Sophisticated Side Ponytail’. Who knew such sublime electro could cut through the grey cloud that Seattle always seemed to have resident above it? Catchy with a bit of swagger, incorporating their ancestral grunge Natalie Portman’s Shaved Head make nice tunes with ‘Me & Yr Daughter’ a standout for the dancefloors, the beat reminds me a bit of the Soulwax remix of LCD Soundsystem’s ‘Get Innocuous’ which is no bad thang at all at all. Touring the States with Lily Allen in April hopefully they’ll hook up a gig here…the album Glistening Pleasure is out nigh! Tweet them, Facebook them, Blog them, Myspace them, Love them!
Yellow desert boots. Damn right you can and don’t let anyone tell you different, just buy some of that suede super protector first. From Opening Ceremony.
Brazilian Vik Muniz’s ‘Portrait of Alice Liddell’…that is the Alice who the book Alice In Wonderland was written for. On display in the Irish Museum of Modern Art. Hard to see from the image above but he made the portrait from the those sort of plastic toys you’d get in Christmas crackers.
This is the last week to vote on RTE’s Storyland. For those who don’t know Storyland is a competition for new programme makers. 5 months ago entries where sent into Donnybrook and they picked 9 finalists who then went off and made some screen magic, or maybe not, and each of the programmes are now online for us to watch and vote for which one you want to see another episode of. Voting closes on the 30th of March.
Influenced by the bold colours and clean lines of graffiti and the rough-edged urban feel to street art Project A Apparel are an Irish company that are knockin out a small but exclusive range of bomb tees and selling on their online store at the mo’ that’ll leave you with enough money to go to the cinema, get a bus home and STILL have change, 15-20 blips. Check out their blog and befriend them on facebook.
Damien Hirst and Levis have collaborated over recent years where they came out with some affordable and wearable pieces that featured the themes associated with his artwork such as skulls, spots and spin art. Here he is using the denim brand as a canvas for a art piece entitled ‘The Spin Jeans’. Images of these have been doing the rounds since last year and have popped up again so I think they’re being auctioned within the next week or so. There will be just 8 examples worldwide with a suggested retail price of approximately 20,000 yuros. Yeah I know what your thinking, old 501’s, poster paint, table on roulette wheel…easy.

St. Patricks day looms and Carroll’s of Dublin are rubbing their hands as they lay out all sorts of paddywhackery for our tourists to lap up. On the 17th Adidas US are releasing a special limited edition of their classic campus runner in unison with the festivities. The design received some input from House of Pain member (you have to love this name) Danny Boy O’ Connor. Enjoy skulling your pints over the weekend!
