The most important issue of Vogue, it’s about the size of the yellow pages and probably has just as much ads. It makes for a good documentary and September Issue points out the art, the beauty and absolute ridiculousness of the fashion industry. Anna Wintour, the editor-in-chief, is apparantly the single most powerful figure in fashion and she is icey to say the least. However she is not a complete mare as one would have presumed and even defrosted some emotion when revealing her siblings view on her career as “amusing”. The likable figure of Grace Coddington shines as the amusing and likable creative director. Her photoshoots are magic and maybe too close to her heart when only to feel the frustration of having some of them “killed” by Wintour. Wintour opens the film speaking of people being scared of fashion. This film shows the human side of the industry (including the rudeness) and uncovers that there is nothing to be scared of, it’s just a magazine with clothes. No more, no less but then again I am a bloke. Its showing in the Lighthouse Cinema in Smithfield
You may have only been in a forest once and that time you necked a load of magic mushrooms but lets relive that evergreen magic by recreating the outdoorsy look. Worker boots, check shirts, pattern wooly hats and gilets are what you need to achieve this A/W 09 trend. Printed tees and sweatshirts portraying the wilderness in all it’s beautiful glory are also a must also.
Whitney Houston is amazing because she’s absolutely bonkers and hilarious. During an interview with Diane Sawyer she blasted back “Let get one thing straight, crack is cheap. I made too much money to smoke crack.” Classics like ‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody’ are still a firm favourite with Jacinta at the local karaoke night but the 47 year old is back with something fresh and looking totally ride-able. Complete with hi-hats, funky bass and soul claps you can’t help but like this just a lil’.
Photographer supreme David LaChapelle is in Dublin to launch his exhibition ‘American Jesus’ in The Sebastian Guinness Gallery tonight. David’s iconic photos encapsulates glamour and surrealism and jump off the page with his use of vivid colour and striking untraditional portrayal of celebrity. I’m a big fan and love flicking through the Hotel LaChapelle book. It never gets old.
It’s running till October 31st so make sure you check it out. For more deets click here.
Cycling in Dublin City can be scary biscuits with all the double decker buses, loony taxi drivers and big fuck off trucks driving dangerously close to the cycle lanes. So as well as a nifty little system to get you from A to B it’ll also give a huge adrenaline rush when you’re just a whisker away from almost certain death. Bicycles can be hired from 5.30am to 12.30am each day and users must register for either a year-long subscription, costing €10, or a three-day card, costing €2. The first half-an- hour is free of charge while the first hour costs 50c and rises to €6.50 for four hours. If you don’t drop it back within 24 hours, your bank account is automatically debited by €150 (we’re all broke anyway so good luck with getting that!). Click here to subscribe to this wonderful service before all the bikes are stolen.
